چکیده

The recent increase in the prevalence of obesity in many parts of the world is clearly driven by secular changes in exposure to environmental factors, including the increased availability and reduced costs of energy-den e food and a reduction in physical activity during work and lei ure time (1,2). The peed with which this 'obesity epidemic' has occurred has led to the widespread misconception that heritable factors play an insignificant role in determining which humans become obese. In fact, measures of fatness (also known as adiposity) are among the most heritable of human traits (3). Multiple studies of families, adoptees, twins and, mo t powerfully, adopted twin (4,5) have all confirmed that heritable factors are likely to be responsible for 4J::Z.5% of the inter-individual variation in body mass index (the commonly used measure of adiposity) (3,6-8). These heritable factors are likelz to be multiple and are likely to operate through the full range of potential mechanisms, including energy intake, energy expenditure and the partitioning of nutrients between fat and lean ti sue. Paradoxically, there ,is.a danger that the effects of such hereditary influences on ''It weight will be downplaved at a time when we are begin-ning, for the first time, to have a genuine understanding of the molecules involved in the control of body weight and how genetic variation in them can influence human obesity. Why search for human obesity genes?

Genes Predisposing to Monogenic, Polygenic, and Syndromic Obesity: A Review of Current Trends and Prospects for Standard Obesity Genetic Testing

Objective: The burden of obesity is currently enormous, necessitating a novel strategy to complement the existing ones. Accordingly, genetic predisposition is suspected in many cases of the disease, which can potentially be used as therapeutic targets. However, there are differing viewpoints on the suspect genes, prompting the current review to articulate the genes and their mechanisms. Eight (...

Socio-Ecological Factors Related to Eating Behavior and Obesity in Students

The prevalence of obesity in adolescents has increased over the past three decades. Recent evidence has shown that in developed countries, about one in five teens is obese (Abdelghaffar et al., 2020). In Iran, the prevalence of overweight and obesity is 23% (Moghimi-Dehkordi et al., 2020). Improper eating behaviors and obesity are major concerns in adolescence that can be associated with the ri...

The Association between GNB3 Gene Polymorphism and Obesity: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

The association between Guanine Nucleotide Binding protein β protein polypeptide 3(GNB3) C825T polymorphism and obesity has recently been reported. However, the findings remain inconclusive. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to detect the relationship between GNB3 C825T polymorphism and obesity. Materials and Methods: Six electronic databases including Embase, Medlin...

لپتین: هورمون نویافته بافت چربی و اثرات آن بر چاقی

Leptin is a 16-kD protein which is secreted from white adipocytes and, its discovery has generated enormous interest in the regulation of energy balance. Leptin has been implicated in the regulation of food intake, energy expenditure, and whole-body energy balance in animals and human. Plasma leptin levels correlate with fat storages and respond to changes in energy balance. It was initially pr...
